John McKinstry's grandson, Augustus McKinstry (1821-1901), was a druggist in partnership with Allen Rossman. Rossman & McKinstry was located at what is currently 609 Warren Street. Rossman died in 1798, at which point Augustus' son George A. McKinstry joined the business and it became McKinstry & Son. As late as the 1950s, teenagers would hang out at the soda fountain after school. The McKinstry family in Hudson would not have existed if their ancestor had not been saved by Joseph Brant from torture and murder.
