Description:
Child's dress in black and red check twill woven cotton, with pipe seams at tightly gathered waistband and shoulders. Off the shoulder puffed sleeves with embroidered scalloped edging. Seven white buttons down the backside. Drawstring closer at back around neckline with twill tape closer. Two pincushions in same twill woven cotton black and white check fabric. Hand-made, one square shaped while the other is rectangular shape.
Description:
Olive-colored silk dress, inwoven floral design thorughout fabric. Very low neckline. Piping through dress, on bodice. Cap sleeves with deep shoulderline that leads to full gathered long sleeve. Comes to a very tightly gathered cuff with three hooks and eyes. Closure with ruching and scalloped piping. A-line skirt with swagged flounce trimmed with one bow. Bodice boned with hook and eye closure. Tucking at back closure with small bow. Very tightly gathered at back waistline. Scalloped piping goes to point on back. Bodice lined with cream-colored cotton.
Cape, of same material as dress; lined with glazed cotton. Piping along edges with an applied ruffle where gathered, a folded overtucking occurs. Possible button closure. Remnants of holes. Back comes to point.

Day dress, overall dark brown and red floral print on chocolate brown ground. Long full sleeves gathered tightly into drop shoulder and into narrow cuff, also gathered at elbow for extra fullness. Skirt is tightly gathered all around and attaches to bodice; has hook and eye closure with hooks missing. Ten amber glass and brass buttons down front (one is missing). Bodice lined in tan cotton. Skirt unlined except for hem lined in light tan (possibly discolored white) cotton. Sleeve lined in same cotton where sleeves attach to shoulder. Piping also at waistband. Brown plaid cotton loop sewn into center back interior waistband.

Housedress, made wool and silk, open down front with blue cloth covered button and loop closer. Two panels along opening of blue silk with a vibrant rust and turquoise ombré stripe on either side. Interior is lined with a blue and yellow plaid and sprig motif. Sleeves are 3/4 length trumpet shaped (pagoda) with blue silk trim on the ends. Two pockets at front, flaps are trimmed with a similar blue silk. Lower portion of the skirt is embroidered in a chain stitchfloral and scrawling decoration. Back is gathered tightly to slightly high waistline and fitted with a drawstring on interior and exterior. A single blue silk tie with a tassel can also found along either side of waist.
Ombré refers to a kind of gradation of color - usually seen in a stripe - that was popular for women's dress fabrics in the mid 19th century. A huswif, found in the Locust Lawn collection, was made using a scrap of wool fabric left over from this housedress.
