Diana Rose Wynkoop
Diana Rose Wynkoop was born in 1831 to Charles Rose and Isabella Dubois (Lefevre). Diana first appeared on the census in New Paltz in 1850. She was 23 years old and was working for Abner Deyo. In 1855, Diana was listed as living in New Paltz with her husband, Jacob Wynkoop, her mother, Isabella DuBois, and her daughter, Jane Wynkoop. Diana and Jacob were neighbors with Jacob’s brother, John Wynkoop and mother, Jane Wynkoop.
In 1860, Diana was living with her husband, Jacob and daughter, Jane. They were neighbors to John and Jane Wynkoop. Isabella Dubois was listed as living with John and Jane Wynkoop. In 1870, Diana was still living with Jacob and Jane. She was listed as keeping house and Jacob was working as a carpenter. Jacob’s real estate was listed as being valued at $300. They were still neighbors with John and Jane Wynkoop. Isabella DuBois is no longer living with either family. In 1880, Diana and Jacob had their daughter Jane and her husband Isom Walker living with them. Jane and Isom’s children, Charles, George, and Emma were also living with them. John Wynkoop was living next door. On October 24th, 1888, after a long illness, Diana Wynkoop died. Her funeral was held by Reverend R.A.Brown at the AME Zion Church. She is buried in the New Paltz Rural Cemetery. There is no tombstone to mark her grave.
