Boarding Houses
The boarding house business became a money making item when people still had to travel by stage coach from the Hudson River boat landing into the mountains. The coming of the railroad brought the city dwellers into the mountains every summer, by the thousands.

Every family in the Town of Olive took a few boarders, with the exception of some places where large boarding houses had been built that could accomodate 50 or 100. This town was ideal for boarders with beautiful scenery, fishing, bathing, and hiking up mountain trails.
