Little Tommy is no more
On Wednesday morning February 28, 1848, Little Thomas Jessup died. Leah, unable to write, had her husband Thomas write to Maria, giving her the sad details of their loss.
"Our dear Tommy is no more. His sufferings are ended. About 1/4 before 2 this afternoon his immortal spirit took its flight and sped its way to God who gave it. He continued to fail since Sunday and appeared to waste away. About an hour before his decease he looked at me as conscious (while I held his little hand in mine), that he knew me. He died easy, with but a slight struggle and in my arms."
