Student Internship Program
The Jacob Leisler Institute seeks college undergraduate and graduate student interns to aid in fulfilling the Institute’s mission. These internships provide a great learning opportunity for anyone interested in early modern New York and Atlantic World history, in acquiring documentary editing skills, and in transcribing and translating early modern manuscripts, as well as learning archival and library science skills.
Internships are offered as a for-credit field-work opportunity through area colleges. The work of student interns is directed by professionals in the fields of history and librarianship and is evaluated as per the school’s requirements.
Each internship is tailored to the needs and interests of the student but might include:
- Assisting in data entry and data compilation.
- Learning to transcribe seventeenth- and eighteenth-century documents. For foreign language students, it also provides an excellent opportunity to work in early modern Dutch, French, and German, as well as Latin, languages.
- Archival and online historical research.
- Cataloging and filing of Institute books, manuscripts, graphic works, and audio-visual materials.
- Assisting in updating the Institute’s social media and contributing to the email newsletter.
